Renault Scenic - New MPV spied testing ahead of Geneva Show debut

Spy shots don't come much clearer than this! We've already seen leaked images from the European patent office, but now the Renault Scenic MPV has been spied without camouflage for the first time, ahead of its debut in Geneva next month.

You can clearly see the similarities with the new Megane hatch - the car on which it's based - especially at the front end with its brushed aluminium inserts and elongated headlights stretching up the bonnet. At the rear there's a conventional upright light cluster on this five-seat version - the seven-seat Grand Scenic also debuting in Geneva, will sport a wackier set of boomerang lights.

Engine-wise the emphasis is on the 1.5-litre diesels delivering up to 110bhp, and the larger 130bhp 1.9 and 150bhp/180bhp 2.0 dCi units. At least one model will emit less than 130g/km of CO2, and so cost only £90 a year in road tax from 2009.

With Renault sparkling reputation in the MPV sector expect class-leading packaging in the cabin, with hideaway rear seats in the Grand Scenic and loads of innovative storage areas. Prices are likely to start from £14,500 for the five-seater shown here and from £16,000 for the Grand.
